NKI nettstudier is Norway's largest provider of online education. They had a technical platform for their students that was not used much. The design was outdated and the platform not connected to their current Learning Management System, Canvas LMS. Based on the insight that far too many students ended up quitting their courses without completion we set out on a mission to reform the way the students were studying online.
The UI is module based and each student get their own personal study space. Using progress trackers on all classes the students have full control over their progress at all times. At NKI, some courses are following a time-based schedule and others are not. In the dashboard the student can easily adjust how much time they want to spend on a subject and the course will automatically adjust the classes and assignments accordingly. The system includes books (digital) and access to lectures and video sessions.
A chatbot service as well as chat channels are automatically set up in each subject and the student can very easily discuss topics with their fellow students as well as teachers. The student can even book extra video-sessions with teachers directly through the system.
The system also features an "academic cooperation" tracker which is based on the students participation in the chat channels and a motivational task tracker.
The Linki LMS was initially piloted at health care students and the completion rate increased by a whopping 60% compared to the previous year.
